Your Resource in Residential Fire Sprinklers

With the International Code Council (ICC) vote mandating residential fire sprinklers in all single family homes by Jan. 1, 2011, you can rely on Uponor for preparation and compliance to this mandate.

With our long-standing experience in fire safety, trust us as your professional resource on products and technical support. We’ll lead you smoothly through the entire fire sprinkler installation process – from the initial planning and design, to a fully functioning and installed system.

The AQUASAFE® System: One Contractor – Two Installations

Uponor AQUASAFE® is a multipurpose system that combines the fire sprinkler system with a home’s potable cold-water plumbing system, so both can be installed at the same time, often by a single contractor. Professionals experienced with Uponor plumbing systems will already have nearly all the tools and training needed to install our fire safety systems.

Our PEX-a tubing and ProPEX® fittings capitalize on the shape memory of Uponor PEX, which provides fast, strong, reliable connections without the need for torches, glues, solvents or gauges. And ProPEX fittings eliminate problems associated with CPVC that lead to faulty connections, including dry fitting, inconsistent adhesive application and even failures related to wet weather and high humidity.

Uponor PEX is highly freeze-resistant, withstands the potentially oxidative effects of heavily chlorinated water and resists corrosion, pitting and scaling for the most durable plumbing product available. And because the tubing is flexible, it requires fewer connections — reducing chances of leaks and liability.

Our Design Team: Superior Service and Support

With our team of professional in-house designers, Uponor can quickly provide sprinkler system designs at below-market costs. It’s easy. All we need is the house plans and information on the available water supply. If you prefer using your own design firm, we will gladly assist your designer with the necessary hydraulic equivalents.

Uponor’s Design Information Form easily allows homeowners or contractors to provide us with water supply information, including available water pressure, distance from the street to the meter, water supply pipe size and water meter size. Our design team takes this information, applies it to the house plan design, and quickly creates your sprinkler layout. And our flexible pipe systems allow simple and easy field modifications if house plans change along the way. We give you the confidence that the job is done correctly.

Benefits of a Multipurpose Fire Sprinkler System

  • Combines the home’s cold-water plumbing system with the fire sprinkler system which ensures fresh water is available to the sprinklers if it is ever needed in the event of a fire
  • Eliminates stagnant water problems and the need for check valves and backflow preventers
  • Sprinklers activate in response to heat, not smoke
  • Features concealed sprinklers which are hidden behind a plate to better flow with home décor
  • A cost-effective upgrade that adds value and costs less than 2% of the total price of a home
  • Conserves water — uses only 10 to 15 gallons of water per minute to control or extinguish a fire compared to 250 gallons a minute from a fire hose
  • Can potentially save on homeowners’ insurance costs
  • Uponor’s multipurpose system is backed by a 25-year limited warranty when installed by an Uponor-trained plumbing contractor

Expert Quotes

John Wiggin, Homebuilder, Ideas to Build Upon, Maine.

“PEX is a lot easier to handle (than copper) on the jobsite and quicker to install. I like the fact that the sprinkler system runs off the regular cold water lines that use the very same PEX tubing. We did not need to install any additional plumbing components, saving time and expense.”

Eric Skare, volunteer firefighter, Lakeville, Minn., Fire Department

“As a firefighter, I regularly see the devastation to families and their property due to home fires. Many of these people live right in my own community, and their losses are seared into my memory. When I build my next home, I will absolutely install a fire safety sprinkler system to ensure that I have done everything in my power to protect my family and my investment from fire’s destruction. It really is an important home feature, and one that I don’t want to live without.”

Jim Lindahl, State Farm Insurance

“A fire sprinkler system is an investment that safeguards families and homes against the dangers and costs of home fires. State Farm recognizes the monetary savings associated with residential fire sprinklers, and we reward homeowners with reduced rates when they install a fire sprinkler system in a new home. Fire reports show time and again that property damage is nine times lower in homes equipped with sprinkler systems. State Farm homeowners with a fire safety sprinkler system save 10% off their yearly insurance premium so it amounts to significant savings over time.”
