The industry is probably getting tired of hearing “another Uponor first”. But, it’s true. We’ve had more “firsts” than any other PEX manufacturer — with our ProPEX® expansion fittings, with our large-dimension pipe, with our AquaSAFE™ multipurpose plumbing and fire sprinkler system. I could go on and on. However, while being first is wonderful and exciting, it also means you’re constantly innovating, constantly looking for a better way to do things. And that has become our mantra at Uponor. We want to enrich people’s lives through plumbing, heating/cooling and fire safety systems through innovation and finding a better way.

 

So, when I heard we had received our listing that allows our AquaSAFE fire sprinkler system to be installed exposed in unfinished basements, it was quite a big deal. I remember distinctly walking out of my cubicle at work and letting out a large sigh after receiving the call. It had been over a year and a half of hard work to get that listing and I felt like it was another defining moment in Uponor’s history.

 

The new listing allows Uponor AquaPEX® pipe and ProPEX® fittings to be installed and left exposed in wood joist ceiling assemblies constructed from dimensional lumber, engineered wood, wood I-joist or open-web wood joists (wood floor trusses). Typically, these are unfinished basement applications, and can accommodate a wide variety of installation scenarios, with joist depths from 6 to 16 inches and 12 to 24 inch on-center spacing.

 

This listing positions Uponor even farther ahead of our PEX piping competition in the residential fire sprinkler marketplace. It is critical to maintaining and growing the number of new homes being equipped with fire sprinklers — something that saves property and, more importantly, can even save lives!
