A very special day

Today is one of the most well-known and widely-celebrated holidays all across the great U.S. of A! (Calm down, you didn’t forget to buy your significant other a gift.) All you need to do today is embrace someone near and dear to all of our hearts. That’s right—check your calendars, people—today is Hug a Plumber Day!

At Uponor we have a guy who just might possibly be the reason why this holiday exists—Wes Sisco. He has more than 30 years of experience in the trades and now manages the company’s training program at Uponor Academy. He knows everything there is to know about Uponor PEX systems, but what makes him especially unique is his love of a good bear hug. He’s known all across the PEX industry for his embraces (see picture at right).

A very big job

Residential and commercial plumbers don’t always get the credit they deserve. They are the ultimate problem-solvers with a wide array of skills to handle some of America’s dirtiest jobs.

We rely on plumbers to make very precise measurements, and they can’t be wrong. They have an understanding of mathematics, including geometry and algebra (you know the subject most of us threw out the window after high school) in order to perform their jobs every single day.

Often faced with tricky situations, they have impeccable problem-solving abilities and can navigate an issue with careful logic and analysis. Each project is different from the next, but they still have to know what tools, machines and strategies are best for each situation. Knowing how to use good judgement is vital because decisions need to be made quickly, yet carefully, in order to meet deadlines and even prevent plumbing disasters (you know the kind I’m talking about).

A very important impact

Most Americans can’t imagine living without indoor plumbing. It’s often something we don’t think about until we don’t have it. And because we take plumbing for granted, plumbers often go under-appreciated. In other words, these women and men are our unsung heroes.

“A plumber is responsible for the life blood of our communities,” explained Sisco. “Plumbers ensure safe drinking water and waste management—without them we could be at serious risk.”

So don’t wait long to let your PEX plumber know how much you appreciate the work they do for your business or family.

“Hug your plumber and say thanks for keeping us all safe,” said Sisco. (Or maybe just the simple thank you will suffice.)
