Let’s start the lesson from the very beginning.

What is PEX?

PEX is made of crosslinked polyethylene. There are three PEX types: PEX-a, PEX-b and PEX-c. Uponor manufactures PEX-a, which is the most flexible and durable. Uponor PEX is a proven piping product that has been used in PEX plumbing, radiant heating/cooling, hydronic piping, pre-insulated pipe and fire sprinkler systems for more than 40 years.

What is hydronic piping?

In an Uponor hydronic piping system, PEX piping transfers water from heating or cooling sources (such as boilers or chillers) to terminal units (such as baseboard radiators, fan coils, variable-air volume units and chilled beams) to effectively — and efficiently — heat or cool a structure.

Why is Uponor PEX a great solution for hydronic piping applications?

  • Uponor has the most comprehensive PEX pipe offering with sizes up to 4".
  • It functions in either in-slab or under-slab distributions, which makes for a flexible PEX installation.
  • Uponor PEX-a Pipe Support controls the natural expansion and contraction that occurs as the piping heats and cools.
